Blantyre-karten
Blantyre City is located in the southern region of Malawi in the Blantyre district. The city covers an area of 220 square kilometers and has the highest population density in the country with 3,006 inhabitants per square kilometer.
Blantyre City gets most of its water supply from the Shire River (an estuary of Lake Malawi), 30 miles away. The water is taken and treated in a facility called Walker's Ferry and at the Mudi Dam in the city. There are also a number of rivers - Chirimba, Matabi, Lunzu, Mombezi, Mudi, Nasolo, Naperi, Limbe - and two dams (Mudi and Mombesi).
The above map shows the locations of sewage treatment plants (WWTWs), sewer catchment areas and sewer lines. Blantyre City has five sewer networks (Mudi, Soche, Limbe, Chirimba and Maone). Additionally, the city has historically had up to five WWTWs - Blantyre, Soche, Limbe, Chirimba, and Maone - but three of them (Chirimba, Limbe, and Maone) don't work.
