[Carman Hall is in an] excellent location and facility is conducive to meeting new people - all important in [your] first year. Carman was the perfect hall for me in my freshman year at Columbia. It was extremely social; everyone was always in the hallways and lounges, talking, watching TV, or just hanging out. It's very hard to feel isolated in such a busy dorm. Carman Hall was a great place to live. It's the “social” hall for the first year, but you don't have to party all the time. The best friends I made at Columbia were made on Carman 7.
