Professor of TV Writing Frank Pugliese was selected to become the next showrunner in the critically and commercially acclaimed Netflix series House of cards , in collaboration with another author Melissa James Gibson '91 GS. Pugliese and Gibson will take on the original showrunner, another Columbia graduate Beau Willimon ’03, who received his MFA for theater with a focus on dramaturgy. Willimon directed the series for seasons 1 through 4 and helped put media giant Netflix on the streaming map.
Pugliese, who is a senior writer for House of cards has been no stranger to the world of television since season three. In the past it was written for Murder for which he received a WGA Award, Law & Order , The Borgias , copper and Fallen angel for which he received a Cable Ace nomination. He has also written a number of successful plays, including Aven'U Boys , which won an Obie Award, The King of Connecticut , The conversation and The alarm . He is a member of Naked Angels, for which he worked as Co-Artistic Director, and Drama Dept. and is a co-founder of The Writer's Group and The Screenwriter's Collective.
