This Microsoft Office installer is designed specifically for Columbia's own desktop and laptop computers. If you want to install Microsoft Office on your PC, check your permissions on the Software Downloads page.

Permission to download Microsoft Office on Columbia owned devices is general limited to university officials, support staff, faculty, and certain graduate / professional students at CUIMC and CBS .

If you do not have authorization, you will not be able to download the installer and you will be directed to a page with additional information. You can find more information on our Microsoft Campus Agreement information page.

Download Microsoft Office

1 Download the installation program (UNI login required)

Save the installer to your hard drive and make a note of where you saved it.

  • Office 2016 64-Bit Pro Plus for Windows 10, 8, 7 SP1 (841 MB)
  • Office 2016 32-Bit Pro Plus for Windows 10, 8, 7 SP1 (721 MB)
  • Office 2013 Pro Plus for Windows Vista SP2, 7 SP1 (620 MB)

Note: Office 2019 is not available as a download for Windows.

Open the .zip file and double click setup.exe to let it run. Read and follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

Windows 8, 7 and Vista

Double click the installer ( msoffice2013.exe for Office 2013) to begin the installation. Read and follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

Activate Microsoft Office

To activate your Office download, you must have a secure campus network connection or be connected outside of campus via VPN.

Microsoft Office 2013

  1. Sign in with an account with local administrator rights.

  2. Confirm that your date, time, and region settings are correct. Activation may not work if these are set incorrectly.

  3. Activation requires a secure campus network connection. If you are off campus, you will need to set up a VPN. VPN download and instructions.

  4. Go to Start → All Programs → Accessories → Command Prompt.

  5. Right click on the command prompt Programmingabe.

  6. Choose Execute as administrator. This is important, the activation won't complete if you don't run it as an administrator.
  7. At the command prompt, type the following command and press Enter:

     cdProgram FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice15

    (If you are using Windows 64 bit replace 'Programs' with 'Programs (x86)')

  8. Now you should either see:


    C:ProgrammeMicrosoft OfficeOffice15>

    or

    C:Programme (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice15>

  9. Enter the following and wait for the command to finish:

     cscript ospp.vbs /sethst:kmsprodapp01.adcu.columbia.edu
  10. Enter the following and wait for the command to finish:

     cscript ospp.vbs /act
  11. You have now successfully activated Microsoft Office.

Microsoft Office 2016

  1. Confirm that your date, time, and region settings are correct. Activation may not work if these are set incorrectly.
  2. Activation requires a secure campus network connection. If you are off campus, you will need to set up a VPN. VPN download and instructions.
  3. Enter CMD in the Windows search box. Right click on the CMD program and select Execute as administrator . This is important, the activation will not complete if you are not running as an administrator.

Note: There are two versions of MS Office 2016, try the first command below and if you get an error message try the second command below.

Command No. 1 is for 64-bit Office and 64-bit Windows (also for 32-bit to 32-bit)
  • At the command prompt, type the following command and press Enter:

     cdProgram FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice16
  • Enter the following and wait for the command to finish:

     cscript ospp.vbs /sethst:kms.cc.columbia.edu
  • Enter the following and wait for the command to finish:

     cscript ospp.vbs /act
  • You have now successfully activated Microsoft Office. If you get an error message, try command # 2 below.
Command # 2 is for 32-bit Office on 64-bit Windows
  • At the command prompt, type the following command and press Enter:

     cdProgram Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice16
  • Enter the following and wait for the command to finish:

     cscript ospp.vbs /sethst:kms.cc.columbia.edu
  • Enter the following and wait for the command to finish:

     cscript ospp.vbs /act
  • You have now successfully activated Microsoft Office. In the event of errors, please note the information above (date / VPN information).
