On-campus printing - PawPrint

Contact public security to verify that a printer location is open or accessible before printing:
PawPrint is the printing system for students and faculties at Columbia University on the Morningside campus.

To use PawPrint, log into the PawPrint Center in advance to activate your account and check your balance.

The easiest way to print is to install the PawPrint printer driver on your PC. You can also upload your document from a computer with the PawPrint Center or from your mobile device with the Pharos Print App.

Next, go to any PawPrint station and tap your CUID on the card reader. Note that all jobs in your queue will be printed. You must remove any unwanted print jobs from your print queue using the PawPrint Center before tapping your CUID to print.

How is PawPrint responding to COVID-19?

In response to the pandemic, all keyboards and computer mice at the PawPrint release stations were replaced by contactless ID card readers for authentication.

** Please note ** With contactless printing, ALL print jobs are printed in your queue as soon as you tap your CUID on the ID card reader.

You can manage your print jobs via the PawPrint Center from any computer or mobile device in order to avoid undesirable loads on your print quota.

Why do I get the error message 'Unknown card'?

If you have not logged into PawPrint, your account has not yet been activated. Log in to the PawPrint Center to activate your account. It can take up to 60 minutes for your account to become active.

How do I print from a Mac?

First, download a PawPrint printer driver while connected to Columbia's wired or wireless Internet network.

  • Download PawPrint for macOS (10.7.x - 10.15.x (Lion - Catalina) and 11.0.x (Big Sur)) *

Next:

  1. Choose Print
  2. Select PawPrint from the printer list
  3. Log into a PawPrint station
  4. Click on the document and select 'Print'
  5. Pick up your document at the printer connected to the PawPrint station

Alternatively, you can use the PawPrint Center with any computer, private or public, Mac or Windows. Step-by-step instructions are available.

*Please note: After installing the Mac drivers, you may receive a message stating that your Mac OS X is downloading additional software that it needs to communicate with the printer. The installation is fine. If you don't see this message, you can Manually download the additional HP drivers from Apple .

How do I print with Windows?

First, download a PawPrint printer driver while connected to Columbia's wired or wireless Internet network.

  • Download PawPrint for Windows 64 bit (Windows XP - Windows 10) *
  • Download PawPrint for Windows 32 Bit (Windows XP - Windows 10) *

Next:

  1. Choose Print
  2. Select PawPrint from the printer list
  3. Log into a PawPrint station
  4. Click on the document and select 'Print'
  5. Pick up your document at the printer connected to the PawPrint station

How do I print a PDF document?

PDF documents, especially scanned books, are often formatted on non-letter size paper.

How to successfully print the document with PawPrint:

  1. Open the Print dialog.
  2. By doing Paper formatting and handling Section, uncheck the Choose the paper source according to PDF page size as well as Use a custom size if necessary Check box.
  3. Depending on your print job, select the check box for To fit , Actual size , Shrink oversized pages , or Custom scale .
  4. click To press .

Can I print from off campus?

Yes. Print jobs can be printed off-campus using a PawPrint printer driver (recommended). You can also upload your document off-campus to the PawPrint Center or via the Pharos Print App.

When you reach campus, log into one of the PawPrint stations to print out and collect your document.

What do I do if I get a paper size error message?

PawPrint supports the standard US paper sizes:

  • Letter (8.5 x 11 inches)
  • Tabloid (11 x 17 inches)

Print jobs formatted on a different paper size cannot be sent to PawPrint. Incorrectly formatted print jobs that are uploaded to the PawPrint Center cannot be printed. Instead, change the paper size in the document and to save before sending the print job.

What is the cost per page?

Cost per black and white document: 10 ยข per sheet (single or double-sided)

Cost per color document: $ 1.00 per sheet (single-sided only)

When are the weekly and semester-by-semester quotas updated?

The weekly CUIT quotas are reset between Saturday evening and Sunday morning; especially every Sunday at 12:10 p.m., shortly after midnight.

Semester quotas are reset on the first day of each semester. The first day of the fall semester is September 1st and the first day of the spring semester is December 24th.
